Topic Structural characterization of energy materials using NMR spectroscopy
Supervisor Sabina Abbrent Nováková, PhD
Consultant Ing Libor Kobera, PhD
Department NMR Spectroscopy
Description Alternative energy sources are the topic of tomorrow and intensive research is ongoing worldwide. The topics involve materials for lithium batteries as well as so called post-lithium batteries, solar cells, fuel cells, conducting polymers and capacitors. All suggested and tested materials that will be a part of any of the systems need to be thoroughly investigated both by them selves and in combination with their counterparts.
A wide range of experimental techniques are used and one of the major players is liquid- and solid-state NMR spectroscopy. With its multitude of possible experiments and techniques it is a versatile and extensive tool that can clarify the role of the investigated material in terms of resulting mechanical, thermal as well as electrochemical properties.
This PhD position will be mainly oriented on liquid state NMR where the chemical and physical properties of solutions and dissolved materials are investigated. Basic as well as advanced experimental techniques will be used in our many ongoing energy material projects.
