PhD studies
PhD projects – Call for Applications
We are looking for new PhD students interested in advanced materials and biomedical research, who will deepen their knowledge of macromolecular science and transcend its boundaries. PhD projects at IMC are suitable for graduates of chemical and mathematical-physical faculties, as well as of science, technology, and other faculties. PhD studies at the IMC are organized around the topic's focus in cooperation with universities.
PARTNER UNIVERSITIES
Although the IMC does not offer PhD degrees, it is possible to develop a PhD research project directly in our laboratories and research centers in cooperation with selected universities. We currently have joint accreditation with the following faculties:
- Faculty of Chemical Technology, Faculty of Chemical Engineering, and Faculty of Food and Biochemical Technology – University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague
- Faculty of Science, and Faculty of Mathematics and Physics – Charles University
Detailed information about doctoral studies can be found on the websites of the University of Chemical Technology Prague and Charles University: the Faculty of Science for the Macromolecular Chemistry or Physical Chemistry study program, or the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics for the Biophysics, Chemical and Macromolecular Physics study program.
A student admitted to doctoral studies receives a scholarship from the relevant faculty and, at the same time, automatically becomes a full-time IMC employee. The Institute may also offer accommodation in its own facility to a limited number of students.
PhD RESEARCH PROJECTS
Topics of PhD projects for the academic year 2026/2027. Topics will include all areas of current material and macromolecular science, from the synthesis of polymers to their chemical and physical modification and characterization, or to advanced applications. However, the specific topic of each PhD project can be modified to reflect the applicant's interests, with the supervisor's agreement.
ADMISSION PROCEDURE
The main conditions for admission to a PhD program are the successful completion of a university degree, the submission of an application, and the successful completion of an admission interview at both the IMC and the selected university. Graduates of not only the faculties of chemistry, mathematics, and physics can apply, but also other faculties of science or technology. Currently, about 50 PhD students are studying at IMC.
DEADLINE FOR CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
The application form for doctoral studies on the website is open until March 8, 2026. Interviews with applicants will take place in the second half of March. Selected applicants will then be able to apply to the agreed faculties of the universities.
