Recruitment and Selection Procedures

At the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IMC CAS), we are committed to providing equal opportunities for all applicants for positions in scientific, administrative, and technical fields. Openness, respect for diversity, and a fair approach are considered the core principles of our workplace culture.

We have recently initiated the process of obtaining the HR Excellence in Research Award, which we view as a natural continuation of our efforts to foster an inspiring and supportive working environment.

Our practices are guided by the Code of Ethics for Scientific Research at the Czech Academy of Sciences, which we regard as a key framework for our professional values.

Job Advertisements

All open positions are published on our Job Opportunities page, on the Czech Academy of Sciences website, and selected positions also appear on Jobs.cz and Práce.cz.

Administrative and technical (or support) positions are advertised in Czech. For roles where the nature of the position allows, we also publish an English version. Scientific positions are routinely advertised in both languages.

Selection Procedure

Applicants are asked to submit a structured CV (a letter of recommendation or motivation letter may be attached voluntarily). For scientific positions, candidates are also required to provide a list of research outputs and publications.

The composition of the selection committees follows Directive No. 1 – Recruitment of New Employees (dated 2 January 2008, updated in January 2024).

Committee members are appointed by the Director and typically include the Head of the Department advertising the position, the Deputy Director for Research, a member of the research team, and a Human Resources representative. Each committee must consist of at least three members.

Where possible, applicants are invited for online or in-person interviews, and upon completion of the selection process, they are informed of the outcome.

Feedback on strengths and weaknesses of a candidate’s application is provided upon individual request.

All documents submitted as part of the selection process are returned to applicants (if originals were provided) or disposed of in accordance with GDPR.

For any questions, comments, or complaints, please contact the HR Department at personalni.

What We Offer

At IMC CAS, we place great importance on maintaining a balance between professional and personal life.

We offer flexible working hours, international mobility opportunities, and the possibility of part-time employment.

Employees are entitled to up to three days of paid sick leave, and remote work (home office) can be arranged through an individual written agreement.

We also provide an extra week of vacation – a total of five weeks per year.

A general practitioner is available twice a week on-site, which is particularly beneficial for our international employees.

A canteen is also available directly in the institute premises.

Our working environment is open to everyone, regardless of gender, race, nationality, or faith.

Additional benefits include the possibility of family recreation at our own recreational and training centre, a children’s summer camp, St. Nicholas celebration, and other occasional events for employees and their families.

For new colleagues, we provide access to our on-site accommodation as well as staff apartments allocated by the Czech Academy of Sciences.

Although our institute is housed in a building from the 1960s, through targeted modernization efforts and investments in state-of-the-art instrumentation, we have established a research infrastructure that fully meets the demands of contemporary science and supports cutting-edge research at an international level.
