°1 aktual about CBMP

Centre of Bio-Medical Polymers (CBMP)

CBMP is an interdisciplinary innovation centre for research of special polymers that are used in medicine and biotechnologies. In order to implement the project and establish the centre, the Institute’s existing bio-macromolecular capacities were concentrated and further equipped with experimental apparatuses and technical equipment to facilitate the examination of properties and interaction of polymeric biomaterials in the biological environment. The newly established centre will make it possible to overcome the knowledge and communication gap between the level of learning attained through chemical and engineering research and the level that is necessary for the successful applying of biomaterials in biology and medicine.

Ca 150 square meters of existing laboratories were converted to house the new centre and three new laboratories were set up and equipped in these premises as part of the CBMP project. The Institute and cooperating entities had hitherto been hampered by the lack of such laboratories employing methodological approaches that are crucial for targeted biomaterial research.

°2 aktual Laboratories

BioLAB

Laboratory of bio-macromolecular analyses

is focused on molecular and biological techniques of examining and describing the primary reactions of a cell to the contact with polymeric biomaterials and macromolecular systems that carry biologically active substances / structures.

RadioLAB

Laboratory of radionuclide polymers

should extend the utilization of highly sensitive radioisotope techniques for quantifying active components of polymeric systems contained in biomaterials; it will focus on the preparing and characterising of radionuclide polymeric systems that are used in therapy and diagnostics.

MorfoLAB

Laboratory of polymer morphology

is dedicated to specific microscopic techniques allowing to track, in sub-micron resolution, morphologic characteristics of polymer gels and supramolecular polymeric structures in conditions similar to those in which such polymeric structures can be expected inside a living organism; it will also focus on the evaluation of diffusion properties and dynamics of active substances in such systems.

°3 cbmp industrial and research applications

Being an innovation unit focused on industry-oriented research and practical application of outcomes of the basic bio-macromolecular research, CBMP is a valuable tool helping gain substantial economic profit from the Institute’s vast research potential. The establishing of the specialised innovation centre is part of the strategy adopted by the Institute in order to focus its capacities on the most promising fields of science and a more efficient transfer to the practice of outcomes of basic research.

°4 support of the project

VThe creation of the centre is co-financed from the European Regional Development Fund through the Operational Programme Prague – Competitiveness.

Project number: CZ.2.16/3.1.00/28043, term of implementation: 1 Sep 2012 – 30 Nov 2013.
