Polyaniline: From Colour Chemistry to Environmental Remediation
Short bio...

Ermelinda Falletta is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry, University of Milan (Italy). She received her PhD in Industrial Chemistry in 2013, with a doctoral research project dedicated to polyaniline, green alternative synthesis strategies, and its modern applications. During the years, she has developed multidisciplinary expertise in the design, synthesis, characterization, and application of functional materials for environmental and catalytic processes. Her research interests include conducting polymers, nanostructured materials, heterogeneous catalysis and photocatalysis, with particular attention to sustainable technologies and water treatment.
A significant part of her research has focused on polyaniline and other conducting polymer-based materials, exploring their synthesis, physicochemical properties, functionalization, and integration into advanced systems and composites. Her work investigates structure–property relationships and their exploitation in applications ranging from catalysis and photocatalysis to environmental remediation and functional interfaces. She is the author and co-author of nearly 140 scientific publications and has contributed to numerous national and international research activities. Alongside her academic career, she is Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Visioning, a deep-tech startup focused on advanced materials innovation and technology transfer.

Innovative adsorption strategies
for removal of PFAS from water

Short bio...

Anett Georgi is Group Leader of Environmental Catalysis – Advanced Oxidation Processes at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) in Leipzig, Germany. She holds a PhD in Chemistry from Leipzig University and has more than 25 years of experience in environmental chemistry and water treatment research. Her work focuses on adsorption, electrosorption, catalytic processes, and advanced oxidation technologies for the removal and degradation of organic contaminants from water. In recent years, she has been leading several national and international projects on the treatment of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), including the development of innovative adsorption and electro-assisted treatment technologies. Dr. Georgi has authored more than 70 scientific publications and several patents. Her current research aims to develop sustainable and efficient solutions for the removal of persistent and mobile contaminants from water systems.
