Tris-cyclometalated iridium complexes exhibit a number of interesting photochemical properties (e.g. large Stokes shift, lifetimes in the microsecond regime). Our initial work has indicated that introduction of an aminoalkyl substituent onto the parent [Ir(ppy)3] complex does not significantly affect these properties. We are, therefore, exploring options of utilizing such complexes, which are underused in comparison to bis-cyclometalated iridium analogues, for imaging purposes.
