TopicAdvanced methods of controlled radical polymerization for preparation of hydrogel brushes.
Annotation"Surface modification of synthetic materials, which can make them specifically biological active while suppressing their nonspecific interactions with biological media, is one of priorities of material research in the field of biotechnological and medicine applications The aim of the work is the development of anti-fouling hydrogel layers which suppress protein adsorption and cell deposition and contain reactive chemical groups for covalent attachment of biologically active molecules. Radical polymerization (ATRP, ARGET, RAFT) of various hydrophilic acrylates, methacrylates, acrylamides, and methacrylamides will be studied in solutions. The techniques allowing well-controlled polymerization of these monomers in solutions at room temperature will be used for synthesis of hydrogel brushes initiated by reagents immobilized on surface of various substrates. Polymerization kinetics in solution will be studied using GPC and NMR, the kinetics on surfaces .by IR reflection spectroscopy, ellipsometry, and AFM. Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) will be used to observe in situ interactions of the brushes with complex biological fluids. Selected brushes with covalently attached specific bioreceptors will be applied by collaborating biological and medical research teams for preparation of biosensors capable of detecting markers of virus infections or blood cancer in blood plasma.
