TopicStudy of the stem cell interaction with biocompatible polymer systems designed for tissue engineering
AnnotationBiocompatible and biodegradable polymeric materials based on polymers of lactic acid, polycaprolactone, copolymers of N- (2-hydroxypropyl) methacrylamide, or poly (2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate) are widely studied materials designed for regenerative and reparative purposes. They are studied especially for use in the repair of neuronal tissues, retina or bones. The aim of the project is detailed study and characterization of the stem cell interaction with suitable polymeric materials eg. nanofibers or 3D polymeric scafolds in vitro. The output of these studies will be basis for the development of suitable materials in terms of their structure, surface modification, biodegradability, strength and overall behavior in physiological solutions. Further studies will evaluate growth and differentiation characteristics of cells cultured on polymer materials given for the selection of optimum conditions for the repair and regeneration of the target tissue. The proposed theme concerns the overlapping fields of biochemistry, macromolecular chemistry and molecular biology, which is currently highly topical in the light of the necessary interconnection of seeking to develop more effective therapeutic approaches. The applicant will be trained in principal techniques of polymer preparation as well as in principal methods of cell and molecular biology.
