The Makráč Gallery

An art gallery is located at the entrance of the Institute. Numerous artists, mainly painters and sculptors, have had their exhibitions at the gallery since its opening in 1971. For many outstanding artists who were prohibited from working by the communist regime, this gallery represented their only opportunity to show their work—on academic and therefore relatively free grounds. The artists who have exhibited here include Olga Karlíková, Karel Nepraš, Adriena Šimotová, Alena Kučerová, Stanislav Judl, Jan Ságl, Pravoslav Kotík, Daisy Mrázková, Viktor Pivovarov, Václav Boštík, Milan Knížák, Václav Stratil, Ivan Kafka, Věra Janoušková, Marie Blabolilová and many others.

The Makráč Gallery is led by a professional curator: From 1989 to 2001, this position was held by Kurt Gebauer and, since 2001, the position was held by Dagmar Šubrtová. From 2021, Umělecká Beseda exhibits artworks in the Makráč Gallery

All exhibitions are open to public Mo – Fr 8:00 – 18:00, free of charge.
