TopicBioactive interfaces between synthetic surfaces and biological fluids
AnnotationDeposition of proteins from complex biological media, such as, blood plasma and serum, makes serious troubles for applications of artificial materials in biotechnologies and medicine. The work will be focused on the development of “anti-fouling” layers with immobilized bioreceptors that will bind specifically selected biological compounds while suppressing nonspecific protein adsorption and cell deposition. Various bioreceptors, e.g., antibodies, antigens, and logoucleotides, will be attached onto polymer brushes currently developed in the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry AS CR. The aim of the research will be to gain knowledge of factors affecting interactions between surfaces and complex biological fluids, particularly blood plasma and serum, so that biosensors for medical diagnostics could be prepared. The topic has been included in the current centre of excellence “Nonobiophotonics for future health care“ and Biomedicine Centre of Academy of Sciences CR and Charles University, Prague that would start with financial support from EU in the year 2014.
