TopicNew types of UHMWPE for total joint replacements
AnnotationUltrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) is used as a key component of total joint replacements of big human joints, such as hip, knee, shoulder etc. The objective of this work is to develop a new type of UHMWPE for total joint replacements with increased lifetime, within the ongoing project of Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry, Faculty Hospital Motol and the main Czech manufacturer of total joint replacement - Beznoska Ltd. The developed material should be so-called 3rd generation of the crosslinked UHMWPE, whose preparation is based on the natural stabilizer - vitamin E. The student should collaborate with the whole research team and participate on development, preparation and characterization of properties of novel UHMWPE types.
